Article: Culture crossovers bound to ensure Mela festival goes with a bhangra

ORGANISERS of this weekend's Mela Festival are promising it will be the biggest and best yet, with 50,000 people expected to flock to Pilrig Park.

The event, which runs from Friday to Sunday, will feature performers from around the globe including Africa, Iran, Pakistan, Japan, Singapore and India.

Indian Idol's 2007 runner-up, Anshul Tomer, will bring Bollywood hits and new material to the Mela on Saturday afternoon, with visitors also treated to live music showcasing the Chinese equivalent of the bagpipe the following afternoon. And

India Alba will perform a blend of Scots and Indian folk music on Sunday night.
