Article: Harold Hector, 60, actor, leader in Vietnam draft resistance

As a leader of the draft resistance movement in Boston in 1967, Harold R. Hector Jr. of Roxbury endured counter- protesters' blows on the icy steps of a West End church.

News photos captured Mr. Hector, a former captain of the Roxbury Memorial High School football team, with blood streaming from his head while men burned their draft cards in the church.

"The FBI came to my parents' home," recalled one of his sisters, Barbara Loatman of Hyde Park. "It scared them to death, but this was his heart. He believed in what he was doing."

Mr. Hector, an award-winning actor in San Francisco and Boston- area community theater, died July 31 at Laurel Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Jamaica ...
