BRITAIN HAS accused Iran of a human rights "outrage" after an
employee of the British Embassy in Tehran was paraded in a televised
show trial accused of spying.
Hossein Rassam, an Iranian who works as the embassy's chief
political analyst, appeared in court yesterday in prison-style
clothes, alongside 100 others detained after the post-election
protests in June.
The Foreign Office immediately issued a statement condemning his
treatment, which is likely to plunge relations between Britain and
Iran to a new low.
"We can confirm that Hossein Rassam is pictured among the accused
at the mass trial which began in Tehran this morning," a Foreign
