The Allegheny Highlands Trail will move closer to its eventual
southern terminus at the Elkins Railroad Depot, thanks to an
$896,000 grant announced Tuesday by Gov. Joe Manchin.
The trail currently stretches from Highland Park on the outskirts
of Elkins northward to Parsons.
A section is also completed to take travelers between Bretz and
Hendricks just north of Parsons.
The grant will be used by the Randolph County Development
Authority to design and build a short but complex urban section of
the trail from Highland Park to the Veterans Memorial on the corner
of Harrison and Railroad avenues.
A separate project will later take the trail from the Veterans
Memorial to the railroad depot as ...
