The city of West Allis will research whether an old Allis-
Chalmers landfill near 116th Street and Morgan Avenue has any
contaminants, a necessary step in ongoing efforts by two cities to
redevelop the site.
Last week, the West Allis Common Council approved using grant
money for a contract with an environmental consulting service
company to research the history of the landfill, which is part of
West Allis but surrounded by Greenfield on all four sides.
Currently used as a public works drop site by both communities,
the old dump has been eyed for residential development by both
Greenfield and West Allis. Greenfield officials have said they would
