Jewelry retailer Finlay Enterprises Inc., which owns the Bailey
Banks & Biddle chain and operates jewelry departments in 77 Bon-Ton
Stores Inc. locations, has filed for bankruptcy.
Finlay operates three Bailey Banks & Biddle stores in the
Pittsburgh area, including one at One Mellon Center, Downtown, at
Ross Park Mall and in South Hills Village. The entire chain totals
67 locations nationwide. The fate of those stores is unclear.
"We've arrived at this decision after careful analysis and
believe it is necessary given the continued challenging economic
environmental that has resulted in our current business condition,"
Finlay CEO Arthur E. Reiner said in a statement.
