CASTRO VALLEY -- For her first order of business -- signing her
name on the U.S. dollar bill -- Rosie Rios consulted an important 9-
year-old in her life.
"My daughter Brooke was helping me practice by providing me lined
paper," said Rios, who will be sworn in as U.S. treasurer this week.
Having her signature appear to the left of George Washington and
Abraham Lincoln on new batches of currency in the fall is a perk of
taking on one of the nation's oldest federal jobs. Rios, however,
does not plan to waste time basking in the glow.
Drawing on her experiences in real estate, finance and city
planning, and on her own struggles growing up in Hayward, Rios said
she will be tailoring her duties ...
