Hall of fame to honor group
BRAMWELL - The three surviving members of Bluefield's famed
Lonesome Pine Fiddlers will be inducted into the International
Bluegrass Music Association Hall of Fame in Nashville.
Melvin Goins, Bobby Osborne and Paul Williams plan to be on hand
for the Oct. 1 ceremony at the Ryman Auditorium during a program co-
hosted by Cross Lanes native Kathy Mattea.
The 75-year-old Goins says the induction is one of the highest
honors in his career.
Formed in the late 1930s, the group had the early morning slot on
Bluefield's WHIS radio until World War II brought numerous personnel
changes.
They were the first bluegrass band signed to the RCA Victor
record label in the 1950s ...
