Label it a "nudge," a "reminder" or a "call to action" about the
financial difficulties facing legal services statewide. One thing is
certain, as Brian P. Hochheimer put it: "When the chief judge sends
a letter to lawyers across Maryland, it gets people's attention."
The latest missive from Court of Appeals Chief Judge Robert M.
Bell to the more than 30,000 lawyers in Maryland highlights a
decrease in legal services funding at a time when the need for such
services is increasing and points out that lawyers can respond with
contributions of time or "financial resources."
