Article: Ibuprofen as good as codeine for kids with broken arms Medical College looks at pain relief

For children with broken arms, over-the-counter ibuprofen can control pain at least as well as acetaminophen with codeine, according to a study published Tuesday by researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The issue of what pain medication to use after a child is sent home from the emergency room with an uncomplicated arm fracture has been unsettled, with some doctors using ibuprofen and some preferring acetaminophen with codeine, a prescription narcotic.

So researchers studied 336 children treated at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, with about half getting one medication and half the other.
