Penn Brewery's popular restaurant at the foot of Troy Hill in the
North Side closed indefinitely on Tuesday.
Jack Isherwood, interim president of Pennsylvania Brewing Co.,
cited "economic conditions" as the reason. The company's owner,
Birchmere Capital, where Isherwood is a principal, will "continue to
evaluate its options" for the restaurant, he said.
The on-site microbrewery ceased beer production in late February.
But Penn Brewery's various beer brands are still being distributed,
as they continue to be brewed under a contract with a Wilkes-Barre
company.
About 30 people work in Penn Brewery, including administrative
and beer sales staff. It wasn't clear how many restaurant jobs will
