Shipyards get funds

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded grants to two Baltimore shipyards totaling $4.1 million as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. General Ship Repair Corp. will receive $2.4 million to build a 1,000-ton dry dock. The company estimates it will hire 20 employees because of the expansion. Ellicott Dredges LLC will receive $1.7 million for upgrades and expects to create five new jobs in the next year.
