Article: 22 candidates will vie for 13 seats on local school boards

Voters in five area school districts will select from among 22
candidates for 13 open seats in the upcoming Nov. 3 election.
Duarte, La Canada, San Gabriel, San Marino, and Temple City
Unified school districts are all holding school board elections.
Monrovia and South Pasadena School school districts canceled
elections because only one candidate filed for each open seat.
Duarte Unified School District Superintendent Dean Conklin said,
while individual districts have their own struggles, the goals of
"making sure kids are learning and getting a close hand at the
budget" are consistent everywhere.
