Article: Carol Olson: Remembering when the price was right

I've found a new way to gauge my age now that I'm a senior in more ways than one. When people ask me how old I am, I just say, "I'm so old that I can remember 3-cent stamps, 5-cent coffee and phone calls, gas for 25 cents a gallon, and nickel candy bars that were full of candy and not just covered with a piece of cardboard to make them look bigger.

Later, while going through a box of old love letters -- yes most women save them forever -- I found one from 1958 with a 6-cent airmail stamp on it. We had to decide back then whether to send our mail regular or airmail, depending on how fast we wanted it to get there.
