Article: Trial begins in fatal Las Vegas bombing case

LAS VEGAS - A prosecutor opened his case Friday against two men accused in a deadly bombing by showing jurors video of the casino parking structure blast and a replica of the small pipe bomb that caused it.

Prosecutor David Stanton brought the small device into court in a convenience store coffee cup - just as it had been placed on a car roof before the explosion - then lifted the lid to reveal it to a Clark County District Court jury.

"The inherent benign nature of this device was done solely to kill," Stanton said as he spent almost 40 minutes outlining the case against accused bombmaker Porfirio Duarte-Herrera and co-defendant Omar Rueda-Denvers.
