Akustica Inc., a South Side-based designer of innovative digital
mini-microphones used in cell phones and in webcams on laptop
computers, has been acquired by a German company but will remain in
Pittsburgh, the company said Wednesday.
The acquisition by Robert Bosch North America of Farmington
Hills, Mich., a subsidiary of The Bosch Group of Stuttgart, gives
Akustica opportunities to make new inroads into international
markets, said Joseph Jacobson, CEO of the previously privately held
company.
Akustica, which has sold more than 5 million microphones
worldwide, can take advantage of Bosch's "much bigger footprint to
