In the predawn hours Thursday, tragedy mixed with a miracle, a
case of life and death.
Two women were fatally shot at a mobile home in southeast Topeka.
Whoever was responsible left before harming one of the victim's
young children.
Leaha Schmuck, 28, and Walia Tindall, 29, were found dead just
after 7 a.m. in the mobile home they shared at 1223 S.E. 41st
Terrace, said Topeka police Lt. Dean McWilliams. Police said a
family member found the women, as well the 6-year-old daughter of
one of the victims.
McWilliams said the child wasn't injured during the incident,
which he said is being investigated as a double homicide.
