People in Clandown, near Radstock, Somerset, are celebrating
after work carried out at Bidwell Metals Ltd was ruled in breach of
planning laws.
Clandown Residents' Association has battled for 10 months since
work began on an access road from Pit Lane to the scrap yard's
Chapel site.
Bath and North East Somerset Council ordered work to stop because
they felt it had a negative effect on the local environment -
classed as a conservation area - but the company maintained it was
allowed make the changes. A public inquiry was held in July and this
week the planning inspector delivered his decision that the work
should not have gone ahead.
