I was quite a late starter on the violin. I didn't begin lessons until I was 10 but I continued them throughout grammar school, Sacred Heart in Newry, with a priest, Fr Brendan McNally. He said that if I practised hard enough I could get into a music college -- and I ended up going to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. I did my bachelor's degree there as well as a postgraduate degree.

When I finished university I went on tour with a Canadian company and their show called Barrage, which was based around seven violins and involved a lot of dancing on stage.

We toured all over the world going to places like Disneyland and Las Vegas. It was a great experience but very hard work ...
