Around this time of year, sticker shock hits parents and students when they see the list of high school or college textbooks.

But it doesn't have to be that way. Thanks to the Internet, shopping can be easier and cheaper if you have the time to look.

There are Web sites that cater to the textbook crowd. As an experiment, I took a relatively obscure theology textbook and shopped online to see what I could find.

First, a few tips: Be sure you have the right textbook. Textbooks can change year to year, so make sure your instructor is specific about which edition to get. Even better, get the International Standard Book Number, or ISBN.
