July was a slow month for construction contracts in Pittsburgh; 223 permits were issued valued at $23 million, down from $57.7 million in June, according to the Bureau of Building Inspection. That brought the total for the year to $462.6 million, about half the $891.1 million for all of 2008. Major projects approved include the $6.5 million, five-level open parking garage accessory to Consol Energy Arena, Upper Hill, and $1.7 million for renovation of the GetGo station at 4924 Baum Blvd., Bloomfield, by Giant Eagle.
