When Roger Federer broke into tears after his Australian Open
defeat by Rafael Nadal in January, it looked like the floodgates had
opened.
Federer's waterworks seemed to signify that he sensed his reign
at the top of world tennis was over after Nadal's third Grand Slam
title in seven months.
"God, it's killing me," blurted Federer in a surprisingly public
revelation of his torment.
Fast forward six months and vive la difference - thanks in part
to Nadal's bad knees and a belligerent Swede.
His first French Open triumph was followed by his sixth Wimbledon
crown, which pushed him one win ahead of Pete Sampras as the most
successful player in the history of Grand Slams with 15.
