THE military campaign in Afghanistan is failing and the tactics
must be changed quickly, the commander of US and Nato forces has
said.
In a stark assessment of the eight-year battle to defeat al-
Qaeda and Taleban insurgents, General Stanley McChrystal said
victory could be achieved only with a radical new approach.
His comments came as the Ministry of Defence said another two
soldiers had been killed while on foot patrol in Helmand. The deaths
of the soldiers from the Black Watch, the 3rd Battalion the Royal
Regiment of Scotland, take the total number of deaths of UK service
personnel since operations began in 2001 to 210.
