Groundbreaking set

for wastewater plant

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Aug. 26 at the Newburgh Wastewater Treatment Facility at 6366 Vanada Road for the $20 million plant expansion project.

The project will increase the capacity of the existing plant and utilize a new, more environmentally efficient ultraviolet light disinfection system instead of the traditional chlorine system. The project also includes new administration, laboratory and training buildings. Newburgh received a $5 million grant, one of the largest in Indiana, for the project. It also received a low-interest loan through the State Revolving Fund program to help finance the project.
