Black Beauty Field was foreign, her teammates were still closer
to strangers than friends, and while the game was the same, Colleen
Marty had yet to play a minute of women's college soccer at last
year's University of Evansville media day.
"It was strange," Marty said. "We got, not really thrown in, but
you just had to kind of pick up and run with it. It was different, a
different level than high school, but you get used to it."
At least Marty did, becoming a starting forward by the time the
Aces finished 13-5-2, in a tie atop the Missouri Valley Conference
standings, won the MVC tournament and received a berth into the NCAA
tournament.
