CHEYENNE - Puppy owners, keep a close eye on your dog's health:
This is the season for parvo, a highly contagious, swift-acting,
sometimes deadly illness.
Staff at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter and local veterinarians said
they are seeing the usual late summer uptick in cases of canine
parvovirus.
Symptoms are vomiting, sluggishness and bloody diarrhea, which
Dr. Robert Farr calls "the calling card" of parvo.
Parvo destroys the lining of the small intestines, which means
the dog can't absorb water and nutrients, Farr said.
