As noted here last week, the U.S. Attorney's Office subpoena of
the Division of Highways' Right of Way division regarding property
appraisal procedures sparked speculation that the feds are looking
into state contracts with Fairmont-based Puccio and York, co-owned
by Larry Puccio, chief of staff to Gov. Joe Manchin.
While Puccio and York has done $742,562 worth of business with
the state since 1996, that amounts to a comparatively small chunk of
the DOH's appraisal contracts during that time.
The Division of Highways has an approved statewide list of 31
appraisers, and the dominant firm during that period has been John
M. McCracken and Associates.
