Article: Long Island Power Authority wants stimulus cash for solar projects

The Long Island Power Authority on Tuesday said it has applied for more than $17 from the U.S. Department of Energy to support solar and wind power projects on Long Island.

The money would come from finds set aside in the last federal stimulus.

LIPA said the money would cover about half of the costs associated with three separate renewable energy projects.

For one project, LIPA said it would launch a study into how to increase the amount of energy it generates from its existing solar installations, while a second study would attempt to find ways to reliably gauge how much energy solar panels could generate from sunlight.
