Article: Dinnertime now more pleasant

There wasn't much positive in the news last week. The Station, Oak Glen III and Pendleton fires burned through acreage and, in the case of the Station Fire, homes. Not only did the heat wave not break, it got humid, making the already smoky air sticky, too.

It was enough to try the nerves of even the most patient soul.

That is why we'd like to point out one bright spot in another otherwise cloudy week - a ban on robocalls.

A new federal rule took effect last week that prohibits most of the annoying recorded telemarketing calls that companies use to sell carpet cleaning services and mortgages, and that interrupt dinner, clog up answering machines and even eat up minutes on your cell phone.
