NATURE CENTER AT 40: We don't go back quite so far that we remember bean fields to the east of Studebaker Road, but we hardly paid attention to the east of Studebaker when we were growing up in the '60s, just a couple of blocks from that road that was where the world ended and endless fields of whatever began.

We had the typically wild imagination. We were a rugged American GI weary of battling the forces of Hitler and Hirohito, we were Dodgers Maury Wills and Ron Fairly, but it took a crazier imagination than we had to dream that El Dorado Park, already in its incipient stages, would turn out to be more than the flatlands and saplings that marked its beginnings.
