Article: No more robocalls

While the Station fire clouded the air last week, there was one bright spot -- a ban on robocalls.

A new federal rule took effect that prohibits most of the annoying recorded telemarketing calls that companies use to sell carpet cleaning services and mortgages, and that interrupt dinner, clog up answering machines and even eat up minutes on your cell phone.

"American consumers have made it crystal clear that few things annoy them more than the billions of commercial telemarketing robocalls they receive every year," said Jon Leibowitz, chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, upon announcing the new rule.
