REDLANDS - More schoolchildren have needs this year, and two
local groups are rising to the occasion.
The Assistance League of Redlands is prepared to help more
children through its annual Operation School Bell program. The
University of Redlands School of Education is collecting supplies
for Lugonia and Franklin elementary schools.
"We just felt the need to embrace more children because there are
so many people out there out of work and in need," said Janice
Kibby, chairwoman of Operation School Bell.
Last year, Operation School Bell provided 720 local elementary
school students with new clothes, a backpack and other essentials.
This year, they are aiming for 910.
