Article: Guilford panel studies use of golf carts on roads

GUILFORD -- The Police Commission is considering the public's use of golf carts around town now that legislation allows local authorities to set regulations for the vehicles.

Over the next two months, Commissioner Rose Dostert and Police Chief Thomas Terribile will study road conditions and traffic patterns, along with other safety issues, to determine if golf carts should be allowed on the streets.

Dostert said the study was initiated after a resident requested to drive his golf cart around his neighborhood.

Prior regulations had banned golf carts from public roads, and now it's up to local officials to decide if the vehicles are allowed in individual towns.
