Article: Dozer Day event raises funds for schools

A stone quarry is not typically a popular children's playground, but every two years in Sussex that misconception gets bulldozed.

Halquist Stone Quarry, N51 W23563 Lisbon Road, expects to attract more than 20,000 people Sept. 12 during Dozer Day. The event raises funds for the Hamilton Education Foundation.

Angela Fischer, event manager, said the event is especially popular with 4- to 8-year-olds.

"It's a construction and military theme park," Fischer said. "It's nothing like any of the festivals you will see in town."

The Dozer Day Web site, dozerday.com, cautions that because it's in a quarry, there is "dust, dirt, uneven terrain and steep inclines," but Fischer said this ...
