In that sense, Banska Bystrica already has something in common with its newest sister city, Charleston.

It's Almost Heaven.

Located in the middle of Slovakia in Central Europe, Banska Bystrica is a city of about 100,000 people. In 2004, Slovakia joined the European Union and has since adopted the Euro.

This week, as part of the Charleston-Banska Bystrica Sister City Alliance, a member of Banska Bystrica's City Council is visiting with Charleston officials and various city groups.
