There's a saying dating back to the Middle Ages in Banska
Bystrica: "Live in Banska Bystrica and go to heaven when you die."
In that sense, Banska Bystrica already has something in common
with its newest sister city, Charleston.
It's Almost Heaven.
Located in the middle of Slovakia in Central Europe, Banska
Bystrica is a city of about 100,000 people. In 2004, Slovakia joined
the European Union and has since adopted the Euro.
This week, as part of the Charleston-Banska Bystrica Sister City
Alliance, a member of Banska Bystrica's City Council is visiting
with Charleston officials and various city groups.
