The Buchanan County Commission opted to reopen the bid process
for the county employees' health and dental insurance.
The county will hire a broker to negotiate with health insurance
companies for the upcoming year. The county received six bids from
brokers, but five failed to include a necessary addendum, thus
rendering them void. With only one legitimate bid in hand, the
commission decided to start the process over.
"We're representing the taxpayers. For a fair evaluation, we need
more than one bid," Presiding Commissioner Royal "R.T." Turner said.
The commission plans to make a decision on a broker by Sept. 23.
