Found money

More than 500 people found more than $350,000 in unclaimed funds at the Maryland comptroller's office's booth at the Maryland State Fair. Comptroller employees at the fair assisted 3,256 persons to search for unclaimed property, with 545 discovering they had money in their name. One individual found $42,302 with the help of Comptroller Peter Franchot's staff. In total, fairgoers discovered $350,803. Under state law, the comptroller's office is notified of any monies held by financial institutions, utilities, insurance companies and other corporations that are unclaimed after three years.
