Found money
More than 500 people found more than $350,000 in unclaimed funds
at the Maryland comptroller's office's booth at the Maryland State
Fair. Comptroller employees at the fair assisted 3,256 persons to
search for unclaimed property, with 545 discovering they had money
in their name. One individual found $42,302 with the help of
Comptroller Peter Franchot's staff. In total, fairgoers discovered
$350,803. Under state law, the comptroller's office is notified of
any monies held by financial institutions, utilities, insurance
companies and other corporations that are unclaimed after three
years.
