President Barack Obama took the following books on holiday to
Martha's Vineyard. The Way Home by George Pelecanos, Lush Life by
Richard Price and Plainsong by Kent Haruf. The three novels were
accompanied by Hot, Flat and Crowded by Thomas Friedman, a 448-page
tome on the subject of, yawn, climate change and John Adams, double
yawn, a presidential biography by David McCullough. Whether
President Obama actually read them is, of course, another matter but
Mr Pelecanos's thriller was an excellent choice.
Guests at the launch of Even Money by Dick and Felix Francis at
Claridge's in London were presented with a racecard featuring
owners, trainers, jockeys and officials who had all appeared in ...
