A Jackson County jury cleared a truck driver of negligence in a personal injury case brought by a motorist who collided with the defendants' 18-wheeler.

Joyce Maskil, 52, was driving a 1996 Ford Escort north on Interstate 29 near the U.S. Highway 169 in Kansas City at 9:15 p.m. July 29, 2007. She claimed Norzel Ross, a truck driver for Mike & Joy Transportation, negligently crossed into her traffic lane and collided with her car. Maskil alleged Ross was on his cell phone at the time of the collision.

Maskil suffered fractures to her ribs, hip and arm. She claimed damages exceeding $1 million.
