Lemont, Ill. -- As he sized up his approach shot from the middle of the 18th fairway at Cog Hill on Sunday, Mark Wilson had no way of knowing where he stood in the FedEx Cup point standings.

He had a strong feeling, though, that he needed to make a birdie to climb into the top 30 and qualify for the Tour Championship.

The problem was he had 188 yards left -- an awkward yardage that left him between clubs -- and the flagstick was located on the tiny back-left shelf of the green and guarded by water.
