1969 1969 LOCAL: A consortium set up and headed by Derby firm
Fletcher and Stewart Ltd won an order to supply about Pounds 4mworth
of mining equipment to McIntyre Porcupine Mines in Canada for the
next four years. SPORT: Derby County announced they would be sending
a near full-strength team to play Cheshire League club Buxton in a
friendly match to mark the launch of the Peak District club's new
floodlights. WORLD: A parachutist who fell 3,500ft, with only a
partiallyopened emergency chute, escaped with just one broken
vertebrae at Vereeniging, South Africa. Cynthia Kothe, 23, was
making her 20th jump when the handle of her main parachute jammed
after a 10-second free-fall.
