Current global crises call for fresh thinking, new ideas from UN: UN chief

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Monday stressed the need for fresh thinking on a range of global crises currently facing the world -- including food, fuel, flu, finance and climate change -- the likes of which, he stressed, have not been seen in generations.

"We are at a pivotal moment in world affairs ... More than ever before, we need new ideas that will be able to steer our multilateral ship into calmer seas," the secretary-general said at the launch in New York of "UN Ideas that Changed the World," published by the UN Intellectual History Project.
