Coach gets community service in fatal accident
BECKLEY - Mount View High School's football coach has been fined
and ordered to perform community service on misdemeanor charges
stemming from a fatal accident.
Leon Steven Gravely had pleaded guilty in August to speeding and
failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
Prosecutors said Gravely's sport utility vehicle struck and
killed Charles Edward Williamson as the 70-year-old man was riding
his bicycle. The accident occurred in 2007 on the Coalfields
Expressway.
Raleigh Circuit Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick on Monday ordered Gravely,
42, to pay two $100 fines and complete community service, which will
be speaking engagements.
