City council could vote to change tax year

Radford City Council on Monday night scheduled a public information session for Sept. 28 regarding possible changes to the tax year. If approved, the tax year could move from a calendar year to coincide with the fiscal year.

During Monday's meeting, the council also:

- Scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 28 to carry over encumbered expenditures as of June 30 in the amount of $771, 893. The expenditures are items that were ordered last year fiscal year but haven't been received yet, according to city spokeswoman Becky Hawke.

- Approved an ordinance updating Radford's flood plain maps. The city is obligated to update the flood ...
