Article: Settlement for $3M OK'd in 2005 coal ash slide in Forward

A $3 million settlement will pay 25 residents and the state for damages and cleanup resulting from the 2005 collapse of a coal ash embankment and related subsidence in Forward, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said Tuesday.

The agreement resolves litigation in connection with the ash slide. The state will receive $1.8 million for cleanup costs and monitoring. The rest will compensate residents on or near Rostosky Ridge Road.

"It's been a long time coming," said Timothy Lenhart, one resident involved in the settlement. "We're glad it's over with. But we still don't have the check in hand."
