Article: Fahime Akbar

Fahime Akbar, 91, who wrote and lectured about the culture and folklore of her native Iran, died Sept. 3 of congestive heart failure at her home in Chevy Chase.

Mrs. Akbar, who came to the Washington area around the time of the Iranian revolution in the late 1970s, was well known in her homeland for promoting local culture, particularly of her native province of Gilan. While living in Iran, she published a cookbook and a book of poetry about Gilan.

She traveled to Thailand, China, Singapore and Indonesia to study folklore and lectured widely throughout Iran and in the Washington area.
