AUGUSTA - Sixteen long-term-caregivers from around the state were
honored Wednesday at the Blaine House. The presentation of the
Excellence in Long-Term Care awards event marked the seventh annual
Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week in Maine, established
by Gov. John Baldacci in 2002.
The annual observation honors the essential role of Maine's
direct care work force in nursing homes, residential care
facilities, assisted living facilities, and hospice and home care
settings.
According to the office of the Maine long-term care ombudsman,
thousands of Maine's elderly and disabled residents rely on direct
care workers, whose jobs require a high level of skill and
