A UNION has accused aero engine-maker Rolls-Royce of pandering to shareholders over its decision to axe jobs at one of its factories in the city.

Unite said that the company was planning to make 34 people redundant at its precision machining facility, in Wilmore Road, Sinfin.

The factory, which makes engine turbine blades, employs about 140 people.

The union said that staff were informed yesterday morning and a 90-day consultation has now started.

A spokesman for Rolls-Royce spokesperson said: "We are discussing proposed job reductions in our turbines business in Derby with employee representatives.
