PLEASANTON -- With every passing headline and every nightly sound bite mentioning economic turmoil, recession and layoffs, Hin and Holly Liu are often left wondering if their time in the unemployment line is coming.

It is an uneasy feeling.

"We consider ourselves very fortunate," Hin Liu said. "But we are very aware that we could very well be next."

They both have jobs and are not part of the nationwide housing collapse, but the recession has altered their lifestyle.

In the past year, Hin Liu has navigated turnover and salary reductions at New Horizons, a computer training center in Dublin where he works as an information technology manager.
