Providence Point will continue a nearly 100-year tradition in the
South Hills.
After five years of planning, the 32-acre retirement community
celebrated its grand opening Saturday in Scott, on the former site
of the John J. Kane Hospital.
About 45 percent of its residents, or 167 people, moved in as of
last week, said Todd Swortzel, president and CEO of Baptist Homes
Society of Pittsburgh, which manages Providence Point. The nonprofit
opened its first retirement community, Baptist Homes, in Mt. Lebanon
in 1915.
"I still pinch myself when I get up in the morning," said Ann
Lytle, 70, who moved in a week ago.
